SuperTour Finals: Freeman and Bjornsen earn race wins; Hoffman and Bjornsen take overall lead
March 25, 2012

Spring Series gets started with the prologue

Craftsbury, VT -- Both the highly competitive field of athletes and the fact that the Craftsbury Outdoor Center was able to pull off these events despite last week's summerlike weather were incredibly impressive.  And Day One did not disappoint.

Straight from the World Cup young phenom Jessie Diggins grabbed with women's victory and World Cup teammate Simi Hamilton earned the win for men.   Similarly familiar names Holly Brooks and Sadie Bjornsen rounded out the women's podium while Sylvan Ellefson, Noah Hoffman, and Erik Bjornsen stood on the podium for men.  Hoffman sat on Bjornsen's shoulders on the third step of the podium after their tie for 3rd.

As impressive as the speed of the racers was the ability of Craftsbury Outdoor Center to pull of the event after a week of extreme warm temperatures in New England.  Racers warmed up by SkiErg or running and stepped onto the snow only when it was time to toe the start line.  It created a unique, and perhaps uncomfortable situation for the racers, but all were just happy to be able to race!

Racing continues today with a mass start classic.
