Fryeburg, ME - Despite the snow drought that Southern Maine has been seeing in the last month, there is a small pocket of snowy paradise an hour west of Yarmouth, where this year’s TD Bank Bill Koch Festival is being held. Today was the relay races, with racers pairing up with another skier in their age group and racing around the windy courses at Starks Hill in Fryeburg , Maine. Mass starts made for exciting corners and tight finishes, with the crowd lining the fences and cheering all the skiers into the stadium. Many skiers and their families also chose to take a cruise on the mini-marathon, picking up clues along the way and ending with a tasty snack and wooden medallion.
The conditions were extreme and variable today: one minute the sun was peeking out from behind clouds and then next it was snowing huge white flakes, blowing into racers’ faces and covering tents and hats. It all added to the fun though and skiers enjoyed the challenge and excitement of the changing weather!
Tune in tomorrow for a report of the individual races!
