Directions to Mountain Top
From the North::Take route 7 south through Middlebury, Brandon and Pittsford. If the roads are good (this shortcut goes over a steep hill) follow these directions - if not see plan B below -- take a left on Sagamon Road, which is about a mile or two South of Pittsford and just past the Kubota Dealership. GO up over the hill and after three or four miles you will come to a T. Take a left. Follow that road heading north and east to Chittenden - there will be signs to Mt Top XC Skiing. After passing the Barstow School (it will be on your left), you will come to an intersection where you will turn left and then go to the right of the soldier statute and head up the hill - Mt Top is two miles up this hill.
From the North Plan B - keep heading south to Rutland. Before you get into Rutland you will take a left onto the East Pittsford Road. There will be a Mt Top sign. Other landmarks are the big black water tower that you will see on the left. This tower holds water from the Chittenden Reservoir which feeds the electric station on 7 (the Reservoir was built in the 1800's to provide electric power for Rutland and to power the trolley from Lake Bomoseen and Castleton to Rutland) - there are beautiful views of the reservoir from Mt Top. Follow East Pittsford Road for approximately 8 miles to Mt Top. You will pass the Barstow school as described above and turn left and go around the statute heading up to MtTop.
From the East: Come across Route 4 going up over the Killington Gap passing Pico Peak Alpine ski area. AS you head down the mountain and get to the bottom look for Meadow Lake Drive which will be a right turn off of 4. Sugar and Spice restaurant is a good breakfast spot on your right there. There is also a Mt Top sign. Follow Meadow Lake for approximately three or four miles until you come to a T. Take a right. This is the East Pittsford Road. You will be heading north and east now and you will pass the Barstow School which will be on your left. Approximately one mile past the Barstow school take a left and head up the Mt Top Road. You will go around the soldier. Mt Top is about 2 miles from the soldier.
From the South: Take route 7 North and go through Rutland City. As you leave Rutland City, after the last set of lights (past Mr Twitters on your left) look for a right turn (kind of a Y) onto to the East Pittsford Road - your landmarks are the big black water tower, Vermont Roots and the Rutland Veterinary Clinic. Continue on the E. Pittsford Road for approximately 8 miles following signs to Mt Top. One mile past the Barstow Elementary School and past the Fire Station, you will turn left onto Mt Top Road and head up the hill!!
