Race Update: March 12, 2008

Course Map Posted: Link. Event Director's Note: "We have decided to go with a 16K loop. Two laps = 30K course, Three laps = 50K course. With so much feedback about the old course being overly challenging, we tried to find an easier alternative and the only way to do so was to stick with this fantastic 16K loop. Profile is moderate and should be enjoyed by participants of all levels."

Race Update: March 3, 2008

Registration is going strong at skireg.com: DIRECT LINK

Raffle prizes include $800 worth of Swix merchandise and a grand-prize of a full Rossignol Racing Set-up (skis, boots, poles and bindings custom-ordered to your size - skate or classic!)

Food Sponsor Hammergel / Heed will help stock the aid stations with great racing food to get you through. Look for more updates on specifics on food for the slower-going crowd including brownies and other home-made treats.

Post Race Meal: You'll notice that we've kept our entry fee low for this event. Part of this was the decision to not provide a post-race meal and we're encouraging everyone to pack lunch or bring a few extra dollars to purchase lunch at Sugarloaf's renowned Bull Moose Cafe.

Prizes: We have medals for participants who finish all four NENSA Marathon Series full-distance events (30K @ Jackson, 50K @ Craftsbury and 50K @ Rangeley. We also have custom prizes for top-three overall 50K, top-three overall 30K, and ten-year age groups in the 50K (Jr, Sr, M1/2, M3/4, M5/6, and M7 and older.)

Grooming: The entire course will be groomed for skating with a single classic track along one side. We have chosen not to do a special classic only category (as originally indicated in last fall's brochure) but welcome classic skiers to participate and expect the track to hold up quite well.

AWARDS LOCATION: New this year! We have decided to do away with the Awards Ceremony so skiers and volunteers can either head home or go skiing right after lunch. It will be replaced with a Prize Table Distribution System. Here is how it works. Every participant who crosses the Finish Line will receive a Nordic Skier Sports water bottle. Some of those bottles will have an official coupon randomly enclosed. If you are one of the many lucky winners, simply submit this coupon before 2:00 PM at the Prize Distribution Table located inside the lodge. A volunteer will match your coupon with a predetermined prize. If you do not claim your prize before 2:00 PM, it will be given to one of our hard working volunteers.
The top three men overall, the top three women overall, each of the 5-year age group winners, the youngest overall, and the oldest overall will report to the same Prize Table and submit their racing bib. Using the result sheet, a volunteer will match the winner's bib number with a predetermined prize. Each of the above winners is responsible to find out their placing and to claim their prize before 2:00 PM. Otherwise, the prize will be given to one of our hard working volunteers.

POST RACE FEED LOCATION: Serving from noon to 2:00 p.m at the Jackson Community Church Parish. Your race bib is your ticket.

10:45AM = Loppet

2PM Awards Ceremony and Raffle! (this is the original scheduled time and we'll do our best to stick with it!)

To register online through Skireg click here. Or register Now by calling 207-864-4309 or download an entry form at www.xcskirangeley.com

2/27/2008 Update: From the Organizers: We have had over 15 feet of snow so far this year. Tuesday night we expect 9"-14" more. The conditions are the best I've ever seen. The trails are the widest and firmest I've ever experienced. Volunteers are turning out in record numbers. The course is challenging, but a lot of fun. The food, festivities, prize table and hospitality will be exceptional. Without too much fear of overstatement, skiers who miss this one, may well miss the best race conditions in the East in 3 years. The skiing is sensational.

By the way, entries are coming in strong. The field will exceed 250. We already have 49 more racers than we did last year. We're getting entries at a rate of 16 to 20 per day.

Also, there are no discount available for this year, so please avoiding calling and just register at skireg.com.
